Spring is here! It doesn’t feel like it most days in Indianapolis but it’s official. It’s time to start those home improvement projects as well as the annual Spring cleaning we love! Can you hear my sarcasm? Even though it’s not something we always enjoy, there’s something to be said about fixing up your place. A lot of the tasks can be rewarding. Some of them just have to be done.

One project that can be easy to do and have some real benefits is adding some connected home devices to your home. According to a survey from Coldwell Banker, 45% of Americans will have smart home technology in their homes by the end of 2016. With good reason too! Smart home services and home automation have never been more affordable. They can also save you time, money, and your sanity! These are added benefits that traditional security systems just can’t do!

The name of this article is “Why You’ll Love Your Smart Home Services”. That’s only true if you have the right smart home system, the right equipmet, and the right company.  Hopefully, this article helps you out with all those things so when you decide you want to turn your hosue into a smart home you’ll love what you get!

Secure Smart Home Systems

A smart home that isn’t secure isn’t that smart at all! In fact, your home security system can be the foundation of your smart home. That’s where smart home security comes in.

Smart security systems are more than a burglar system. Having intrusion detection is important, I won’t argue that. We are heading into the busiest months for property crimes. As the weather gets warmer, crime activity increases. But the unfortunate truth is that many people won’t use their traditional alarms systems. Some would say they are a waste of money. If you don’t use your home security, it is a waste of money.

That’s why smart home security is a nice way to protect your home and family while adding some additional conveniences to your everyday life.

When you add some basic home automation to your alarm system and give your system a way to get frequent updates you can start seeing the benefits of owning a smart security system.

Most Popular Smart Home Services for Connected Homes

There's a lot of ways smart services can benefit your lifestyle. Just by adding a smart thermostat you can start seeing some Smart-Thermostatssavings on your energy bill. But you can do that with your fancy programmable thermostat? Not to the same extent. Your thermostat doesn't know when your home and when you leave. It doesn't know when you leave a door, or window, open. And it doesn't know when extreme temperatures come our way. This is Indianapolis. It can be 75 degrees one day and 35 the next.

Your home security system becomes a connected home by communicating with the security panel and other equipment in your home. With some systems, when you leave your home your thermostat automatically starts saving energy. Before you walk in the door, your smart thermostat will make sure your comfortable. Yes! The technology is here and it can benefit your everyday life.

Take it a step further by adding some smart lighting. Even though you can spend thousands on smart lights there is an affordable way to use lights with your connected home. The easiest way is to add a couple of smart light bulbs to your custom smart security. These bulbs can last for over 15 years. Now you can make sure you never walk in a dark room when you come home. You can also make sure you turn off all the lights when it's time for bed.

These are just a couple of ways that smart security is making your homes and lives smarter. Most people see an average of 15% to 20% in savings and energy reduction. With these types of monthly saving, a smart home security system can end up costing less than most traditional alarm systems.

You can also use these light bulbs fo those high ceilings that are a major pain to change. Not to mention you don't have to risk
falling from a ladder.

Life Safety

Another benefit that most people don't know about is the life safety features that can be included with today's home alarms. Monitoring for fire is something most traditional alarm systems have the capability of doing. However, did you know a smart thermostat can help save lives in a fire? By having monitored smoke detectors and a smart thermostat in smart home security system they can work together in more ways than just financial benefits.

Most people know that the smoke in a fire can be more devastating than the flames. Smoke can be fatal. But if you have a smart system with a thermostat working with your fire alarm you have a way to reduce that risk as well. If your monitored smoke detector goes off, an All About Security smart security system will make sure your thermostat stops any circulation through your vents. By shutting off the furnace and/or air conditioner your thermostat will increase the chance of survival. Pretty amazing, right?

Remember those smart light bulbs? Well. if there is a fire, a break-in, or any emergency, they can be programmed to turn on. Now your home is more visible. This can help first responders find your home and let your neighbors know something is going on. In a real emergency, these can be a huge help!

One place we like to have our smart light bulb is on the porch. We have our programmed to turn on and sunset and turn off at Smart-Light-Bulbsunrise. No one has to worry about walking through a dark entrance. It's an added benefit for my peace of mind. It's also nice that I don't have to worry about it being left on but that isn't as important as making sure my family is safe.

Additional Smart Equipment

Another awesome piece of equipment is a smart door lock. This is one of my family's favorites. By adding this key piece of smart security equipment we don't have to leave an extra key under a door mat, or anywhere else. It's also nice to not have to worry about lost keys. Even better to not have spare keys that are roaming around somewhere. Once you have a keyless lock you'll never want to go back to a traditional one. It's 2016 and most people are using the same lock and key and that was around for grandparents, parents. I think it may be time to upgrade.

There are a lot more types of equipment that a smart, or connected home can have as well. From things like flood sensors and video cameras to a smart garage sensor, to ensure you never leave the garage door open again. If I wrote about all of them today you would have to read a book. 🙂

Like Home Automation Services? Don't Want a Security System?

Even if home security isn't something you want, the good news is that a connected home can be self-monitored. That means you can still have these types of equipment and services without professional alarm monitoring. Alarm monitoring is important but I'm the last person who will try to convince anyone to get something they don't have the interest in. The added benefit of a secure smart home is that you can always add alarm monitoring with some security companies. We want to help people live better and safer lives, monitored alarms are only one way we do that.

DIY Doesn't have to Be By Yourself

All of these services are great but they have to be simple to use. Even though you can buy most of these things at any big brand store you have to install them yourself and learn how to use them. That's the biggest reported frustration when it comes to smart home services. Not to mention the cost. Would it be easier to have the option of professional installation?

Maybe you want to save some money and install your system yourself. That's great but you also want to make sure you have someone to call to walk you through the process and installation. The last thing you want is having another unfinished project.

Some local security companies, like All About Security, offer smart services that make your connected home a lot more affordable too. It's always nice to be able to add on in the future. At the same time, you want to make sure you're using the same platform you already know.

By having a professional service install your connected devices you can sit back and relax and enjoy your smart home! At the very least, you can have the customer service you need to make installation and programming easy for yourself.

Adding these things through different providers yourself also can mean having a different app for each device. Like it's not hard enough to find the one app you really need. Using today's technology and a smart security company you can have the added benefit of using one app that's user-friendly. No headaches to deal with.
